• Know the requirements for fire-stopping installation
• Be able to carry out the installation of fire-stopping products
• Identify common hazards associated with working in SDUs & MDUs, including access, residents, and building layout
• Apply safe working practices that minimise disruption and maintain a safe environment for occupants
• Follow correct procedures for working in communal areas, risers, basements, and service cupboards
• Work in accordance with organisational and regulatory safety requirements for SDU & MDU environments

At the end of the course you will have the ability to:

• Apply essential safety practices and procedures when working in single‑ and multi‑occupancy buildings.
• Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective control measures to maintain a safe working environment.
• Follow key safety principles including electrical safety, fire prevention, safe use of tools and equipment, and clear communication with occupants.

This qualification will be assessed through a practical and theory test. The aim of the assessments is to ensure successful learners have adequate knowledge and understanding of working safely in single- & multi-dwelling buildings in a telecommunications environment.

Certification

This Smart Awards certificate is valid for 3 years, you will then need to complete the course again or attend a refresher course, if available, to renew your qualification.

NOPS Card

In addition, Smart Awards also offers its Network Operative Passport Scheme.

Managed and administered by Smart Awards, the card you receive has a unique QR code. When the card is scanned by employers or site managers with granted access, they will be able to securely view all the information about your awards qualifications, including when the course was taken and what the expiry dates are.

Consequently, you no longer need to carry multiple cards for different qualifications. NOPS stores everything in one system and updates your records within a couple of weeks of you achieving each qualification.

There are no formal entry requirements, and Smart Awards will not restrict access on the grounds of prior academic attainment, age, employment, geographic location or any other grounds. Smart Awards state that by having no prerequisites, there are no barriers that restrict access or progression, thereby promoting equality. It is expected, however, that learners will have a level of literacy adequate to cope with both the theory and practical assessments.
