What to expect from your course

Any streetworks site must have at least one qualified operative on site at all times during works, and the site must have a qualified NRSWA supervisor appointed to the site who can oversee the works.

The supervisor need not be on-site at all times but must be able to adequately carry out the role. The NRSWA streetworks supervisor qualification does not replace or over rule the operative qualification if you already have an Operative Card, you can hold both an Operative and Supervisor qualification. However, one person cannot cover both roles at the same time.

Your course will cover a combination of street works units over the 5 days of your course. Once you complete each unit, you will take a multiple-choice test.

Since our courses offer various combinations, you must check that the course you want to book includes the units you require. Verify from the NRSWA Supervisor Units list below.

What is NRSWA?

The NRSWA is the (New Roads and Street Works Act 1991) exists to ensure safety and correct practice when carrying out any work on roads, highways and footpaths. It is there to minimise risk to both workers and the public. It is an act of legislation (a law or set of laws passed by Parliament). The qualifications required for operatives to undertake streetworks was updated in 2016. In the NRSW Act itself, there are lots of practical guidance given for the efficient co-ordination, ensuring safety and minimising disruption and inconvenience to the general public using the road or pavement.
