NRSWA Courses in Corby
The NRSWA Unit O1 course is available 17 minutes away from Corby, in Kettering, just off the A14. Kettering Station is only a 10-minute taxi ride away. The venue is easily accessible from Northampton via the A43, from Leicester via the A6, from Wellingborough via the A509 southbound, from Rugby and Coventry via the M6, and from Milton Keynes via the M1.
There is onsite parking at the centre. Alternatively, or if full, on-road parking is available. While lunch is not provided, the venue is close to amenities to purchase food, and food vans visit in the morning.
The course hours are from 8am to 4:30pm, but may vary based on the number of candidates.
The Northampton training venue is on North Folds Road, just off the A 6003. The nearest train station to our venue is Corby which is a short 10-minute drive away and Kettering which is a 14-minute drive away. Surrounded by nature’s greenery our training venue is situated in a quiet and discreet location, creating the perfect learning environment for you. There are a range of attractions within the beautiful county of Northamptonshire such as the Rayleigh Windmill and the Canvey Miniature Railway. Also close by is the Willow Place & Corby Town Centre which is a short 7-minute drive away, perfect if you want to grab a bite to eat!

What to expect from your course
On your Operative Signing, Lighting and Guarding course in Manchester, you will be taught how to:
- Produce a plan of an intended site showing the position of signs, guarding and traffic signals. The plan must include all relevant distances, sizes, and dimensions required.
- Produce a list of equipment for the intended site.
- Position, test, adjust, commission and decommission temporary traffic signals.
- Conduct the activities safely wearing the appropriate safety wear.
Equipment to bring on the day
You will be learning on a live site during your course. Therefore, you will be required to wear protective clothing. Requirements vary by location, and some centres can be more accommodating but typically you are required to bring:
- Fluorescent Jacket Long-sleeve
- Overalls/Work Clothes (shorts not allowed)
- Gloves
- Safety Boots
- Waterproof Clothing
- Hard Hat

What is NRSWA?
The NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act 1991) exists to ensure safety and correct practice when carrying out any work on roads, highways and footpaths. It is there to minimise risk to both workers and the public. It is an act of legislation (a law or set of laws passed by Parliament). The qualifications required for operatives to undertake streetworks was updated in 2016.
