What is the Q028 (ME1) Maintenance Excavation course?

The Q028 (ME1) Maintenance Excavation course develops delegates’ knowledge and skills in safely excavating, managing, and reinstating underground utilities during maintenance excavations on the Openreach underground (UG) network. Specifically, delegates will use JB23 and JB26 precast chambers to house and protect critical cable joints and connections. Delegates will learn safe digging techniques, plant protection, and how to prevent damage to existing infrastructure. Moreover, this course tailors it’s content to engineers and contract partners engaged in utility maintenance and excavation work.

Principally, regular maintenance excavations help identify and address issues with underground utilities, such as water, gas, and sewage lines. Therefore, this prevents small problems from becoming major failures that could disrupt services and cause significant damage. JB23 and JB26 precast chambers protect cable joints and connections in underground telecom and utility networks. Made from durable materials like reinforced concrete, they ensure long-lasting performance and easy access for maintenance.
