Virtual Courses

Same Course, Same Certificate Achieved

With the virtual training, you can gain the IOSH Managing Safely certificate you need for your job or to further your career without leaving your home. There is no difference between the IOSH qualification gained on a classroom-based course and the virtual course.

The virtual course has been adapted to keep you actively involved in the group discussions and activities by using break-out rooms for small group work, online quizzes and polling and survey tools. Your expert trainer will give you step-by-step guidance on tackling health and safety matters in your workplace, as well as helping you learn through scenarios managers and supervisors can relate to.

IOSH Managing Safely Course Content

The IOSH Managing Safely course content covers the seven modules below. It follows the same structure as the classroom-based open course, providing delegates with an insight into health and safety practices learning about their legal responsibilities to themselves, their employer and others, according to current legislation.

Module 1 – Introducing Managing Safely – some managers may see health and safety as an add-on to their role, even an intrusion. The first module makes it clear that managers are accountable for their teams.

Module 2 – Assessing Risks – this module defines and demystifies ‘risk’ and ‘risk assessment’. Risk assessments and a simple scoring system are introduced, and delegates carry out a series of assessments.

Module 3 – Controlling Risks – here, the session tackles cutting risks down, concentrating on the best techniques to control key risks, and how to choose the right method.

Module 4 – Understanding Your Responsibilities – the demands of the law and how the legal system works and introduces a health and system management system.

Module 5 – Identifying Hazards – all the main issues any operation has to deal with are covered in this module – entrances and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise, housekeeping and the working environment.

Module 6 – Investigating Accidents and Incidents – the session starts with why accidents should be investigated and goes on to cover why things go wrong and how to carry out an investigation when they do.

Module 7 – Measuring Performance – this module explains how checking performance can help to improve health and safety. Delegates learn how to develop basic performance indicators and get to grips with auditing and proactive and reactive measuring.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some of the questions we frequently get asked about our IOSH Managing Safely virtual courses:

Can I attend the virtual IOSH Managing Safely course on a smart phone?

As the IOSH Managing Safely course is a 3-day course, we do not allow delegates to complete the course on a smart phone. The smaller screen size will make following the tutor difficult over 3 days, as well as getting involved in the interactive activities and completing the assessment. If you do not have access to any device other than a smart phone, then a classroom-based course or our e-learning course might be a better option for you. Contact one of our team to discuss what your options are.

What are online virtual courses?

Online virtual courses give you the same training as you would receive in a classroom course. The difference is that your trainer is on your screen instead of in front of you in a classroom. The training is live and in real-time with the trainer taking you through the course in the same way as a classroom course. The content and qualification awarded are also the same but the presentation is modified to make the online experience interesting and engaging.

Is lunch included on virtual courses?

Lunch and refreshments are not included for your virtual course or on most classroom courses. You’ll have plenty of breaks to make yourself a tea or grab some snacks though.

What interactive activities are there during the Virtual IOSH Managing Safely course?

We use Zoom Polling to provide single-choice or multiple-choice polling questions, Kahoot! Which is a game-based learning platform used to check your understanding of the course information; we also use Zoom breakout rooms allowing delegates to solve problems or complete exercises in smaller groups.

What's is the difference if I take the virtual course rather than a classroom course?

The answer is simple no travelling, you will have:-
  • Exactly the same trainers
  • Same course content and learning hours
  • Gain the same qualification
You don't need to be worried about the technology we will support you with guidance, if you have difficulty with joining the course or at any other difficulty during the course.

How long do I have to complete the IOSH Managing Safely work?
