What is the CITB Health & Safety Awareness Virtual Course?

This is an Online Live Virtual Classroom 1-day CITB HSA course delivered using Zoom. This course is a direct replacement for the classroom course as it is trainer-led, which means the trainer will be teaching you in real-time. The CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is one of the most common health and safety courses to attend for those looking to get their CSCS Labourers Card and start working on construction sites in the UK.

We have been running virtual online CITB Health and Safety Awareness courses using Zoom Classroom since 2020, and we have put a lot of time and effort into the virtual course’s development to make it a real long-term alternative to classroom courses.

Your trainer will deliver the course online in real-time, so your experience of the CITB HSA course is engaging and interesting. If you have any questions your trainer is there to support your understanding every step of the way.

The course has been adapted to keep you actively involved in the group discussions and activities by using break-out rooms for small group work, online quizzes and polling and survey tools. You will learn essential principles of health and safety in the construction industry: hazard identification, risk assessment, control measures and legal requirements.

How Do Virtual Courses Work?

You will receive a Zoom link by email a few days before your course starts. On the day or first day of your course, use the link to join the group from anywhere using a laptop, computer or tablet. Our virtual courses are trainer-led, and your course is fully interactive. You will be involved in activities and discussions with the trainer and other delegates on Zoom. If you are unfamiliar with the Zoom platform, the training team are able to organise a call to test your equipment before the course date, get in contact with us to arrange a convenient time.

Course duration

The CITB Health and Safety Awareness virtual course is a 1-day course. Your assessment will be completed on the same day, just like it is if you were to attend the course in a classroom.

Same Course, Same Certificate Achieved

Virtually attend your CITB health and safety course from the comfort of your own home using Zoom classroom. The course is live with a real trainer teaching you in the same way as a classroom course. There are activities designed specifically for the virtual Zoom Classroom or Teams platform which will keep you engaged and interested. When you pass the course, you will achieve the exact same certificate you’d earn in a classroom.

With virtual training, you can earn the certificate you need for your job or to get your CSCS Labourers card without leaving your home.

Benefits of a Virtual Online Course:

What will I need to attend a virtual course?

All you need to attend a virtual course is access to a computer, laptop or tablet with a microphone and webcam to use for the duration of the course. Most laptops have a webcam and microphone built-in; however, if you are unsure if your laptop, internet, microphone or anything else is suitable, we can arrange a short test meeting before you book or attend your course to check. This course cannot be attended on a mobile phone.

We will fully support you through the Virtual IOSH Working Safely course. You’ll join the course via Zoom using a link in your joining instructions. Zoom is free to use; you can download it, or you can open the meeting in your browser on the first day of the course using the link.

Assessment and Certification

At the end of the course, you will be required to complete a test that consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. You will be given 30 minutes to complete the assessment and you will need to get 25 out of 30 marks to pass the test. On a virtual course, your assessment is taken online whilst the course trainer invigilates. You will be sent a link to your exam at the end of the course, then the trainer will monitor audio and webcams whilst the group complete their assessment.

You will receive a digital certificate usually within 2 weeks of completing your course.

What happens if I fail the CITB Health and Safety Awareness Assessment?

In the event that delegates fail a CITB assessment paper and they qualify to do a re-sit assessment, the assessment paper can ONLY be taken on the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we frequently get asked about our virtual courses:

Can I still get my CSCS card if I attend a virtual course?

Yes, CSCS accept the Health and Safety Awareness certificate if it is achieved through a virtual course. It’s the same course content, you have a live stream to a trainer and you earn the same certificate.

Is lunch included on virtual courses?

Lunch and refreshments are not included for your virtual course or on most classroom courses. You’ll have plenty of breaks to make yourself a tea or grab some snacks though.

What are online virtual courses?

Online virtual courses give you the same training as you would receive in a classroom course. The difference is that your trainer is on your screen instead of in front of you in a classroom. The training is live and in real-time with the trainer taking you through the course in the same way as a classroom course. The content and qualification awarded are also the same but the presentation is modified to make the online experience interesting and engaging.

What's is the difference if I take the virtual course rather than a classroom course?

The answer is simple no travelling, you will have:-
  • Exactly the same trainers
  • Same course content and learning hours
  • Gain the same qualification
You don't need to be worried about the technology we will support you with guidance, if you have difficulty with joining the course or at any other difficulty during the course.

What’s the difference between virtual and elearning?

Elearning courses are made up of course materials that you read, listen to and watch. Our virtual courses are more like classroom courses except you are viewing your tutor and the presentation on your screen. You learn alongside other delegates, take part in group activities and discussions, share stories and situations from your workplace and get advice from your tutor and classmates. Elearning you learn at your own pace, choosing to do it all at once, an hour at a time however you like, virtual courses have set times just like a classroom course.

Do I get a workbook for my course?

For some courses, you will be sent a PDF workbook, which is easy to take with you to work or site (on a mobile device) and has a much smaller carbon footprint for the environment. For CITB courses, you will be sent a link to access workbooks for your course. If you need access to a physical copy of your workbook and you have been sent a PDF copy, contact a member of our team using the online chat by phone (0800 0213 263) or email us to see how we can accommodate you.

How long does the CITB HSA exam last?

The exam takes 30 minutes, it is a closed book exam, which means you can not take any supporting materials, like your course notes or workbook, into the exam with you.

Is there a test on the CITB HSA course?

The 1 day CITB Health and Safety Awareness course has a short test at the end, everything on the test is covered during the days training. If you have any concerns please let us know before the course.

Once I have sat the CITB HSA course, what do I do next to get my green card?

Once you have completed the course you phone CSCS on 0344 994 4777, within a week they will have your details and confirmation of your pass on their system. You then pay the card fee and you can apply for the CSCS Labourers card provided you have completed the CITB Health Safety & Environment test. Watch our video for more information.

What happens if I fail the CITB HSA exam?

In the event that delegates fail a CITB Health and Safety Awareness assessment paper, and they qualify to do a re-sit assessment, the assessment paper can ONLY be taken on the same day.

What is the pass mark for the CITB HSA exam?

You must obtain 25 marks out of 30 (83%) or more to pass the examination. There are 25 multiple-choice questions: 20 questions are worth one mark each and 5 questions are worth two marks each.

I completed my CSCS touch screen test more than 2 years ago, can I still take the course?

As long as you have completed the touch screen test within the last 2 years, you can complete the CITB HSA course and then gain your CSCS labourers card.

If your touch screen course was completed more than 2 years ago then you would have to re do this and the course to gain your CSCS Labourers card.
